She had heard that Eden wasn’t human, but only when the old woman turned to face her with a wrinkled smile, her arms reaching up towards heaven as she transformed into a flock of white and gray birds, did she believe.
She stood as the birds flew past her and seemed to disappear into the gray sky. The whirlwind they left in their tracks sounded all too familiar. She smiled when she recognized Eden’s laugh and thought of the old woman shaking her head at anyone ever doubting that she had magic.
